ENGINE MAINTANANCE GUIDANCE

Maintaining the engine in your car is a very important part of looking after your car. Without regular maintenance and servicing, your engine will eventually fail and end up costing you a lot of money.

Here are a few easy things to check on your engine that will help you keep an eye on all the levels and fluid condition.

Your engine oil dipstick is the way to check how much oil you have in your engine. You can usually engine_dipstickfind your engine oil dipstick on the side of your engine, in most Fords the handle of it will be yellow making it easy to find. Upon pulling it out you will need to wipe away all oil off the dipstick and then re dip it in. Upon removal of the dipstick the second time you will be able to look at the bottom of it and read your engine oil level. If it is on the “Add” indicator add some oil to your engine, or if you do not know how much to add in go see your local mechanic.

raditor_overflow_bottleYour coolant level can be found by looking on the side of the radiator overflow bottle. If the level is down to “Min” or below min, add some coolant or water in. Note: Do not open radiator overflow bottle cap when the engine is hot or has been recently run. There will be a build up of pressure in the cooling system and if opened it will cause boiling hot water to shoot out potentially harming yourself or anyone nearby.

Your brake fluid level can be check by looking on the side of the brake_master_cylinderbrake master cylinder and looking at the level indicator. Once again if it is low you can top the fluid levels up, but be sure to put the correct brake fluid in. If there is no fluid at all in the reservoir do not drive your car as air would have been sucked into the braking system causing your brakes not to work correctly. Call a tow truck to get your car towed to your mechanic.

If you notice any leaks from any part of your car, whether it be any types of oil or coolant. Take your car to a mechanic as soon as possible to get the leak repaired and the fluid levels topped up.

Following these quick easy steps will help you to maintain the engine and fluid levels of your car, helping prevent any unnecessary damage that may occur from fluid levels being too low. If you are looking any car parts, Check out http://www.fordprowreckers.com.au
